IF YOUR SOUL WERE AS MINE by Micah Ogugua Okoye

Dear Altair,

Please do not blame me
For making a place for my demons
In a grove meant for our love

If only we shared a body
Maybe you would understand
That the darkness that I fight
This void that consumes my light
Is far too great for a feeble soul

If only you lived in my mind
Maybe you would understand
That I am alone, cold and burning
A times I take a deep breath
Hoping it would be my last

O if your soul were as mine
A mist coated in fragile glass
Maybe you could understand
This unearthly mirage
That drowns my truest desires
